Captain Sam Steele was Colonel George Pearkes’s chief of staff. A graduate of Sandhurst, he served in East Africa during the Great War.
An ambitious young officer, Steele was frustrated by the Colonel’s current billet. He had great respect for veterans of the West Front.
Captain Steele died under mysterious circumstances on the night of 24 February 1925 in New York City.
